Witness Stand , 2016.   Southern yellow pine, light bulb, window reflector, extension cord. Here, Say    reconstructs a courtroom. The work interprets fixtures of the judicial system, reimagining judge, jury, witness, defense, and prosecution as objects lacking agency. Informed by mock trial, a competitive collegiate activity in which students argue fictional court cases, this installation highlights the theatrical and absurd. A light bulb becomes a microphone, a dramatically long bathrobe stands in for a judge’s robe, and a row of institutional jerseys acts as the jury.
